How Does A Static Gun Work – Explained

Static Electricity is the build-up of an electrostatic field around an object. It’s created when two oppositely charged objects come into contact, like when you touch a metal doorknob and then touch your hair.

When you pull the trigger on a static gun, you’re releasing a stream of positive ions (which attract negative ions). This creates a voltage in the air between the gun and the object you’re trying to clean. 

Since static electricity is basically just electrical energy, it can power things like AA batteries or even small motors. And since it’s constantly building up, Static Electricity can be dangerous if it gets into your eyes or ears.

Static guns are pretty simple machines. They use two piezo-electric crystal devices to generate a static voltage. When you pull the trigger, the positive ions flow out and the negative ions flow in. The difference in voltage causes the gun to discharge, and it can be used to protect things like furniture or electrical equipment.

Homemade anti-static spray for furniture

If you want to make an eco-friendly homemade anti-static spray for furniture, you have to follow these steps:

Gather the ingredients:

  • Take water in quantity
  • Rubbing Alcohol
  • Fabric Softener
  • Spray Bottle

First, start with a spray bottle and fill it with about 250g of water. Mix 1 TBLS of Rubbing Alcohol by measuring. The alcohol enhances the vaporization of the solution. Then add 1 TBLS of Fabric Softener to decrease static. And finally, mix up the solution with any equipment or by shaking the spray bottle. Now you are ready to clean your furniture and others. Spray this solution on fabric furniture, blankets, and other linens, carpets, and curtains. Avoid spraying it over leather, silk, or other surfaces that shouldn’t be wet. Keep any unused static spray away from heat and light, and out of reach of children and pets.
